Brief History and Role

The Consiglio Nazionale Geometri e Geometri Laureati (CNGeGL) was established in 1929. It is the national representative body of the independent surveyors' profession. CNGeGL is regulated by the D.lgs. lgt. n. 328 of 23rd November 1944, organising the relations between CNGeGL (as national representative body) and the individual Provincial Colleges of Surveyors (as local professional bodies). In particular, the above mentioned law concerns the registration of surveyors, disciplinary power and electoral matters.

Principal Activities

The operative ambit of CNGeGL concerns both the instrumental aspects of professional practice (for example the field of the professional code of conduct, of quality and education) and the specific technical activities (for example cadastre, topography, real estate, building and town planning).

In fact, CNGeGL has established several Study Commissions, each concerned with a specific sector: Agriculture, Cadastre-Topography, Competence, Building, Education-Data Processing System-Civil Protection, International, Revenue-Rate, Real Estate-Expert Activity-Quality, Territory-Environment-Urban Planning, and Learning.

CNGeGL has also established a Political Commission that has the task of entertaining relationships with local and national political Bodies, and a Press Commission for external communication.

Principal Areas of Policy

CNGeGL's Institutional tasks are:

* The function of special judge concerning disputes between surveyors concerning disciplinary actions, registration and striking off the roll and electoral disputes;
* The representation and safeguarding of independent surveyors' professional interests, professional improvement, education and quality.

Moreover, CNGGL Members express opinions on all matters concerning the practice of the profession both towards the administrative authorities and, when requested, towards the legislatives bodies.

Organisation

The Consiglio Nazionale Geometri e Geometri Laureati is a public, juridical non economic body established under the Ministry of Justice.
It is composed of an elected body of 11 members with a 3 year mandate.

For the day to day administrative activities, the organisation has its own operative structure constituted by staff which fulfills policies of CNGeGL competence.

It guarantees cadastral and data processing services to all independent professional and registered surveyors. It works also through the 'Fondazione Geometri Italiani', which publishes weekly a survey called Geocentro.
